Crossover Success: 5 Musicians with Basketball Skills
Last week, Quavo, one-third of Migos, was spotted playing pickup basketball–and it turns out he can actually hoop. Sure there isn't much defense happening here, but the Atlanta MC showed off a solid handle, smooth lefty jumper, and even some nifty finishes around the rim. Plenty of musicians are multi-talented within the confines of music, but only a select few can compete on a basketball court. Here is my starting five of musicians who are not only nice on the mic, but also on the hardwood. Point Guard: Common It isn't too hard to imagine one of the most consistent rappers of all time providing a steady presence at point guard. Unselfish, not too flashy, and can hit a jump shot when needed. Common would keep the team calm even at the end of close games – think Tony Parker (unfortunately the comparison doesn't really work in reverse). Shooting Guard: J. Cole Long, athletic, and definitely capable of dunking, J. Cole is my pick for Shooting Guard. As a rapper who makes his own beats, you have to think Cole would be a two-way player willing to put in work on defense. During his time at St. John's University, Cole tried out for the team unsuccessfully – luckily for his fans, this gave him plenty of time to focus on music. Small Forward: The Game There is no question The Game would be this squad's go-to player. Providing a combination of size, scoring prowess, and the ability to instill pure terror in opponents, he claims to have received a D1 offer to play at Washington State University. Today, he participates in the famed Drew League regularly, holding his own with former pro and college players. Power Forward: 2 Chainz A former college basketball player himself, 2 Chainz fits nicely at the Power Forward spot. He can stretch the floor or challenge opponents in the low post with his 6'5” frame. Plus, you have to love hearing his chains clank together as he makes a move or how he yells “2 Chainz” with every jumper. Center: Win Butler, Arcade Fire He's big, he's Canadian, and he's always in the running for NBA All-Star Celebrity Game MVP honors. Win Butler of Arcade Fire slots in at Center as the only non-rapper in the starting lineup. Sure to gobble up rebounds and knock down threes, Butler delivers a versatile skillset to this already talented team. Sixth Man: Justin Timberlake Justin Timberlake's full set of skills may be a question mark, but he seems to know a thing or two about trash talk. Every good bench needs a big mouth, so JT gets the final nod. There you have it. Five starters and a boy band bench leader. Now if only a few more NBA players could figure out the rap thing… The post Crossover Success: 5 Musicians with Basketball Skills appeared first on TBA. http://bit.ly/2tr3UsG Need a rapid detox body cleanse? http://goo.gl/bqX535

Pemberton Music Festival Abruptly Cancels Event
Pemberton Music Festival Abruptly Cancels Event: Despite announcing their initial lineup just three weeks ago, Pemberton Music Festival has declared bankruptcy. Originally slated for July 13-16 at British Columbia's Mt. Currie, organizers released a statement on Friday confirming the fest's cancellation. The statement doesn't give much info regarding why the event went bankrupt, but it does outline how attendees may receive their refunds: “Unfortunately there are no automatic refunds from PMF. As PMF is now in bankruptcy, it has no ability to provide refunds for tickets purchased. However ticketholders may file a proof of claim form as an unsecured creditor with EYI in accordance with the claims process. Proof of claim forms will be mailed to known PMF creditors in due course and made available on the Trustee's website. A determination of recovery, if any, on the claims of ticket holders from the estate will not be known for several weeks. The Trustee will provide an update to creditors in due course. Refunds may be available to ticketholders from third parties if tickets were purchased using a credit card. As each bank and credit card issuer have their own specific policies, ticketholders are to contact their bank or credit card issuer directly to determine whether a refund can be obtained. The Trustee will provide further details concerning contact information for the various credit cards and financial institutions on its website.” TL;DR — If you want to get your money back from Pemberton Music Festival it ain't going to be easy. Looks like after years of on again off again, PMF is officially off. (Original Post 5/1/17) After a sorted history of starts and stops, Pemberton Music Festival is back with a very strong 2017 lineup. Top 5 Tour Announcements of the Week
It's a rock heavy list today, with a mix of hardcore, acoustic, country, aaaand Guns N' Roses. Here's who we're most excited to see announced tours this week. Guns N' Roses North American Tour Somehow, someway, Guns N' Roses are still happily reunited and touring. In addition to their previously announced overseas run slated for the first half of the summer, they've just tacked on a batch of North American gigs for the second half of 2017. Catch them from July 27 to November 25, with the Deftones, ZZ Top and Sturgill Simpson on varying dates. Click here for tickets. Aaron Watson ‘Vaquero' Tour In support of his latest album Vaquero, independent country star Aaron Watson has announced a summer trek. The tour kicks off on May 27 in Austin, TX, at Lonestar Jam, followed by stops through the South and Midwest. It wraps up on November 2 at the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas, NV. Click here for tickets. Dead Cross This hardcore supergroup–comprised of Mike Patton, Dave Lombardo, Justin Pearson, The Locust and Michael Crain–are hitting the road in support of their debut album. The tour begins on August 10 at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA, and wraps up on September 23 at the Ogden Theatre in Denver, CO. Click here for tickets. Luke Bryan 2017 Farm Tour Another year, another Farm Tour from hunky country star Luke Bryan. The six-city run of shows that take place, quite literally, on a farm will kick off September 28 in Lincoln, NE, at Benes Farm. Bryan will also hit up Ziel Farm in Boone, IA, the Ayers Family Farm in Edinburg, IL, and wrap up on October 7 at the Stowers Farm in Centralia, MO. Click here for tickets. Chris Robinson Solo Tour Chris Robinson Brotherhood frontman, Chris Robinson (duh), has announced a small string of solo shows next month. The rare concerts will begin on June 20 at Kuumbwa Jazz in Santa Cruz, CA, followed by a two-night run at San Francisco's The Chapel on June 21 and 22. Click here for tickets. Is it the End for the West Coast Blues & Roots Festival?
Since its inception in 2004, the West Coast Blues and Roots Festival has become a spring staple for the folks of Fremantle, Australia, and the surrounding areas. The event features both local and international musicians, with headliners ranging from James Brown to The Black Keys, John Butler Trio to Elvis Costello, Iggy & The Stooges to Santana (you get the point). Throughout the festival's tenure it's flirted between a one and two-day format, going back and forth nearly ever other year. In addition to scheduling changes, the event also moved around quite a bit, hopping from Kings Park to Esplanade Park before finally settling on Fremantle Park in 2010. But all of these changes pale in comparison to the most recent news announced by fest organizers. Following the 2015 edition, it was revealed that West Coast Blues and Roots would not happen in 2016, taking a year off to rebrand and emerge as Freo's Blues, Roots & Beyond. According to a press release: “After our humble beginnings in Kings Park bringing Blues to the people we have decided to take our brand new festival model and make the move into Freo. Passouts will be introduced, allowing the festival to filter out into the surrounding streets, music venues and hospitality spaces, creating a musical journey throughout the cultural centre of the old port city. Come and go as you please exploring Freo's vibrant centre or visit one of the local venues we plan to programme with festival talent, offering a more intimate experience and space away from the main festival hub.” The article went on to say that organizers would use the year off to plan and “engage with the inner city and arts communities and pull everything together,” to come back bigger and better than ever. But spring 2017 has since come and gone, and (according to the WCBR Facebook page) promoters Sunset Events are still working to obtain approvals for 2018. Can the West Coast Blues and Roots Festival survive a name-change and rebranding? Most likely. The event has already undergone a name-change once, having start its inaugural year as the tongue-twisting “Sunset Live's Botanic Blues, Roots and Soul.” Plus, they're not the first music event to endure a PR facelift: in 2016 Austin Psych Fest turned into LEVITATION; in 2003 the suffering Fan Fair country fest turned into mega-popular CMA Music Festival. The real question is whether the West Coast Blues and Roots Festival–I mean Freo's Blues, Roots & Beyond–can handle another blackout year. Organizers were already under fire on social media after the March '17 edition was scrapped, and with so many other music festivals cropping up loyalty is likely fleeting. Hopefully with that extra 365 days, Sunset Events and the city of Fremantle have something super special up their sleeves for the hottest new old blues festival in town. 5 Ways to Save Money on Ed Sheeran Tickets:
Summer concert season is right around the corner, and this year Ed Sheeran is hitting the road in promotion of his new album, Divide. While tickets to see soulful songwriter are in high demand, you shouldn't have to blow your vacation fund in order to catch a glimpse. Read on for our top tips on how to save money when buying tickets to the 2017 Ed Sheeran tour! Tip #1: Utilize the Ticket Tracker Find out when Ed Sheeran ticket prices drop in a city near you by utilizing SeatGeek's “Track Artist” feature. When you track the artist and/or event, you'll be notified of any cost fluctuations and if any additional dates have been announced. You can find the “Track Artist” feature at the top of any performer or event page.. Tip #2: Check Out Nearby Cities While it's certainly more convenient (and exciting) to catch Ed Sheeran performing at your local venue, it might not always be the smartest move. If you live on the East Coast, do some comparison shopping to see what nearby venues offer the cheapest ticket prices. For the die-hard fans living in a larger, less-clustered area, consider planning a summer vacation to one of the more affordable concert destinations. Shop Ed Sheeran Tickets Tip #3: Use Deal Score When spending hard-earned cash on concert tickets, fans want to make sure they're getting their money's worth. Deal Score is a tool developed by SeatGeek to help rank the value of a ticket based on historical prices for the performer and the venue, the row location, the expected sightline from the section, and the quality of the other available tickets for the event. Utilizing this feature will ensure that you're getting the most bang-for-your-buck when buying Ed Sheeran tickets. Tip #4: Wait Until The Last Minute Calling all procrastinators! If you don't mind being spontaneous, waiting until the week (or even hours) before the concert can often save buyers money when purchasing tickets. While it's not a guarantee that prices will drop, sellers with remaining inventory are eager to rid themselves of extra tickets, thus costs go down the closer it gets to show time. Tip #5: Cozy Up To The Nosebleed Section If you're just looking to get to the Ed Sheeran show and don't really care where you sit, sort the ticket listings by “price.” It'll filter the cheapest options to the top, showing you the current lowest get-in price for the concert. With Sheeran performing at such large venues on the Divide tour, there will likely be large screens projecting her so that everybody gets a clear view. Or with the money you saved on your nosebleed tickets, you can buy a fancy pair of binoculars. (Image courtesy of Mark Kent via Flickr.)
